Advanced Composite Structures Australia is proud to announce that our Chairman, Prof. Murray L. Scott, has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) – one of the highest honours bestowed by the world’s largest aerospace technical society. The award certificate was presented at a special induction ceremony in Washington DC by AIAA President Prof. Daniel E. Hastings [left] and AIAA Selection Committee Chair Prof. Wesley L. Harris [right], both of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

This recognition celebrates Prof. Scott’s significant and sustained contributions to aerospace engineering over his distinguished career, spanning more than four decades. He was nominated by Prof. Dimitri Mavris of Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with the citation: “He has made significant contributions to aerospace engineering through leadership of professional and research organizations, particularly in the field of advanced composite materials and structures”.

“Achieving AIAA Fellowship is a rare honour for an Australian and great recognition for the contributions I have made together with many colleagues over the past 44 years since I joined the institute as a student member,” said Prof. Scott.
Prof. Scott’s most significant contributions to the Aerospace Engineering profession and manufacturing industry were made in connection with the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite Structures (CRC-ACS), firstly as a senior researcher and then as Chief Executive Officer for 14 years. A major success under his leadership was the technology developed in collaborative projects involving Boeing Aerostructures Australia, which subsequently secured a sole supplier contract for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. These world-leading achievements in advanced composites design and manufacturing are now also emerging in additional advanced products and services being delivered by Advanced Composite Structures Australia (ACS Australia) and its partner organisations.

This Fellowship is a testament to his remarkable career and ongoing dedication to excellence in aerospace innovation.
