ACS Australia has been contributing to Composites World for several years, and this year marks the first time we have made it onto the front cover! This is a very exciting moment for both ACS Australia and Kinetic NRG to have their composite manufactured hydro-electric turbine featured around the World.
The team involved here at ACS Australia that contributed to this successful project are listed below:
- Senior Engineer Johannes Straub
- Senior Technician Michael Crossthwaite
- Engineer Adrian Chiem
Last year ACS Australia was engaged by Kinetic NRG to manufacture the hydro-electric turbine assembly, which you can learn more here in the case study – Composite Hydro-Electric Turbine, a challenging manufacturing process for a complex design, yet achieved through an ingenious approach and a great example of composites capabilities. The primary material used was non-crimp glass fibre epoxy resin composite, which is ideally suited to manufacture the low-cost modular micro spiral-shaped hydro-electric turbine.
Here is the centre spread pages 44 to 47, which goes into the technical design detail of the turbine:
We would like to thank Hannah Mason for her support and professionalism in reporting, having interviewed both Paul Falzon and Darren Wren on a few occasions to fully understand the system properly.
